Samples And Physical Proofs

  • Digital Proof: Best for checking text, layout, size, and overall design before printing.
  • Physical Proof: A printed sample of your actual design before the full run. Available for a small fee on supported orders.
  • Sample Pack: Material samples available on request when you want to compare options before ordering.

Some parts of an order are easy to approve on a screen. Others make more sense in your hands. This page explains the difference between a digital proof, a physical proof, and a sample pack so you can choose the option that fits your order.

For most standard orders, a digital proof is enough. A physical proof is better when material, finish, or in-hand feel matters more. A sample pack helps you compare materials before you commit, but it does not replace approval of your actual artwork.

What Is The Difference?

Digital Proof

A digital proof is an on-screen preview of your order. It helps you review your design before printing.

A digital proof is the right choice when you want to confirm:

  • spelling, names, dates, and other text
  • layout and spacing
  • artwork placement
  • size, orientation, and trim or cut notes
  • overall design approval

For most standard orders, this is the main review step before production. It is the fastest way to confirm that the order looks right.

A digital proof does not show the exact in-hand result. Screens vary, lighting varies, and some materials or finishes look different in person than they do on a monitor.

Physical Proof

A physical proof is a printed sample of your actual design before the full order is produced. We offer physical proofs for a small fee on supported orders.

A physical proof is useful when you want to judge things that are harder to approve digitally, such as:

  • how the piece feels in hand
  • how a material or finish looks in real light
  • how the design reads at actual size
  • whether the overall presentation feels right before a larger run

A physical proof adds cost and extra time because a separate sample has to be produced before the full order moves ahead. In most cases, full production starts after the physical proof is approved.

A physical proof reduces surprises. It does not eliminate every possible variation. Minor differences can still happen in print, which is normal.

Sample Pack

A sample pack is different from a proof. It does not use your custom artwork. Instead, it gives you examples of available materials so you can compare options before ordering.

A sample pack is useful when you are still deciding what material or finish you want. We can offer sample packs of different materials on request.

This is usually the best choice when you are still making a product decision. It is not the best choice when you need to approve your actual design.

When A Digital Proof Is Usually Enough

For most standard orders, a digital proof is enough.

Choose a digital proof when your main goal is to confirm that the text is correct, the artwork is placed properly, and the order details match what you expect. It is the simplest and fastest review option.

A digital proof is usually the right fit for straightforward orders, repeat designs, and projects where accuracy matters more than material comparison.

When A Physical Proof Makes Sense

A physical proof makes more sense when the final printed piece needs closer review before a full run.

That is often the case when:

  • the material or finish is a big part of the decision
  • the order is large enough that extra review feels worthwhile
  • the design is detailed and you want to judge it at full size
  • presentation matters more than usual
  • this is your first time ordering a specific product or format

If seeing the real piece would help you feel more confident before production, a physical proof is usually the better option.

When A Sample Pack Makes Sense

A sample pack is the better choice when your first question is, “What material should I pick?”

Request a sample pack when you want to compare materials before placing your order. It is especially helpful when options seem similar online but may feel different in person.

A sample pack helps you choose the right starting point. A physical proof helps you review your actual design on that starting point.

How To Choose The Right Option

Start with the question you are trying to answer.

If you need to confirm spelling, layout, size, or placement, choose a digital proof.

If you need to see your actual design printed before the full order runs, choose a physical proof.

If you are still deciding which material you want, request a sample pack.

Some customers use more than one step. For example, you might request a sample pack first, place your order once you know the material you want, and then approve a digital proof before production.

Timing And Production

Digital proofs are the fastest option and are usually the best fit when you want to keep the order moving.

Physical proofs take longer because a separate printed piece has to be made and reviewed before full production begins.

Sample packs are part of the decision stage. They help you choose materials, but they do not approve your artwork for printing.

If your order has a deadline, it is best to ask about physical proofs or sample packs as early as possible.

Still Not Sure Which One You Need?

That is normal. Send us the product you are ordering, what you are deciding between, and your deadline. We can point you toward the option that makes the most sense for your order.

FAQ

Do I Need A Physical Proof For Every Order?

No. For most standard orders, a digital proof is enough. A physical proof is most helpful when material, finish, size, or presentation needs closer review.

Does A Sample Pack Include My Design?

No. A sample pack shows material options. It is meant to help you compare choices, not approve your custom artwork.

Does A Digital Proof Show Exact Color?

Not exactly. A digital proof is best for checking content and layout. Screen settings and lighting can affect how color appears, so the printed result may look a little different in person.

How Much Does A Physical Proof Cost?

Physical proofs are available for a small fee. Contact us with your order details and we will confirm the cost for your order.

Will A Physical Proof Delay My Order?

Usually, yes. A physical proof adds an extra review step before full production, so it can extend turnaround.
